Bodo Peace Pact will Bring Peace to Horizon of Assam, Says CM Sonowal

New Delhi, January 27, 2020:

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday opined that the signing of the tripartite agreement between the Assam Government and the Centre and the Bodo stakeholders will usher in peace and prosperity across the length and breadth of Assam.

"The biggest thing is...today is a big day for the people of Assam... a memorable day...for the signing of this Accord has signaled the coming of peace on the horizons of Assam..", Sonowal told the media,

"All sides, from the ABSU to the NDFB, have played a key-role...the administration of the BTC has extended cooperation", the Chief Minister further added, stressing on the significance of all major Bodo organizations coming together for the first time to sign a common pact.

"I extend my heartiest greetings to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah because their initiative has enabled this. For long, people thought that Assam would be split, however, this pact has ascertained that the territorial integrity of Assam will remain intact...", Sonowal said, adding, "the Congress, despite being in power for several years, was not able to make such a decisive move..."

Sonowal also added that a body would be formed to give recommendations regarding the inclusion and exclusion of Bodos/Non-Bodos in the availing of the upcoming schemes and facilities, which remains a bone of contention between the communities in the region. The Chief Minister also stated that the "peace-loving" people of Assam must be "congratulated" for the signing of the "historic Accord" and expressed hope that Assam would see more peaceful times in the future.
