Bodoland encounter: ABSU demands justice for alleged ULB cadres killed by police

KOKRAJHAR: Over 500 people gathered in the Bodofa Children Park in Kokrajhar district of Assam today to protest demanding justice for the two alleged United Liberation for Bodoland (ULB) cadres who were gunned down by Assam Police on September 18, 2021.

The protest was carried out for more than two hours from 11 am to 1 pm by ABSU under the aggies of Kokrajhar District Committee in the heart of Kokrajhar town.

Protesters were seen holding placards with slogans such as "Stop the fake encounter', ' We Need Peace', ' No justice No Rest, and so on.

 

It is to be noted that many student leaders, including ABSU president Dipen Boro were present at the protest.

Speaking to the media Dipen Boro urged Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to underway proper investigation on the encounter of the two youths who were alleged as ULB cadres.

He further stated that such incidents are shocking after the peace agreement in the BTR region.

"Such incidents should end in Bodoland so that no innocent person is killed as a result of such a firefight," he said.

 

As many as 13 union bodies participated in the protest.

They have also submitted a memorandum to the state Chief Minister demanding judicial enquiry to the killing of the two youths.

The deceased have been identified as–Jwngsar Musahary, a resident of Salguri of Patgaon, and Janak Kumar Brahma, from Parbatjhara under Kokrajhar district.

It is pertinent to mention that while Police have claimed that the two were cadres of ULB, the villagers and the militant group itself claimed that the youths were not their members.

Villagers called it a planned cold-blooded murder.
