Assam Finance Minister and Northeast Democratic Alliance (NEDA) Convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma addressed several key issues pertaining to the Northeast, such as border disputes during his address at the 4th Convention of the NEDA held in Guwahati city of Assam, today.
The Convenor, hailing the concept of NEDA as a bridging concept that will bring the Northeast together, added that the forum can be used to solve various issues plaguing the region. He said that the border issues can be solved if the leaders from all the eight Northeastern states. "The NEDA alliance can be used as a medium to solve the border disputes among the Northeastern States. We can all hold discussions to resolve the contentious issues", he said. "We can also discuss the Inner Line Permit (ILP) issue in this forum", he said, adding that solutions to all of these problems can only be reached through discourse.
Biswa Sarma also raised alarm about the 'drug menace' that seems to have spread like a cancer across the Northeastern region, and also claimed that the alliance of the NEDA can be used to resolve the trafficking of drugs into the Northeast.
It may be mentioned here that the Convention is being chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
