BPF and UPPL Parties to Merge Soon?

Guwahati, September 15, 2019:

Rajya Sabha MP and Working President of the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) Biswajit Daimary called a press meet today in Guwahati to address the reports of a merger between the Bodo People's Front and United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) parties.

Dispelling reports of infighting within the party, Daimary said that the party is holding talks with the UPPL, and other parties as well (apart from current allies AGP and BJP), ahead of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections in 2020.

He said that the BPF wants to forge ahead with UPPL as an ally, and added that the party is willing to give the Rajya Sabha quota to the UPPL. "This is the decision of the party", Daimary said, confirming that UG Brahma would be sent to the Rajya Sabha after the merger of the parties, if it comes to pass.

In regards to the UPPL, the BPF's Working President added, some 2-3 seats would also be given to the party, apart from the seats they are currently holding.

The Rajya Sabha MP further urged upon all parties to come together for the people and strive towards development, adding that the party would be looking to win the election with an absolute majority with the help of its allies. BPF is seeking to bring all the parties in the region under the same umbrella, added Daimary.

The BPF has invited other parties to contest the election under the BPF banner, Daimary said.

Speaking about the alliance between the BPF and the ruling BJP party, Daimary said that Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, had assured the BPF leadership that the alliance should be continued.
