GUWAHATI: The Assam government on  Friday canceled Class 10 and 12 board exams owing to the COVID-19 situation in the state.

The decision was taken in meeting in the presence of the state education Minister and other stakeholders after the Health department suggested to not conduct examinations.

The results will be announced by July 31.

This comes after the Assam cabinet recommended to not hold offline board exams.

A meeting will be conducted to discuss the evaluation procedure.

It is noteworthy that a group of students from the state filed a fresh plea in the supreme court seeking cancellation of state board exams of classes 10 and 12 due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation.

Reportedly, four Assam-based students moved the intervention plea in the court stating that the state government is still in doubt regarding conducting examinations even though it had earlier postponed the examination.

They were referring to a statement of ministers and the Chief Minister where it was implied that the board exams might be conducted between July 15 and July 20 for few papers in the positivity rate of COV ID cases drops down to below 2 percent.
