It has now come to light that the name of a Bangladeshi national has been included in the final National Register of Citizens (NRC), which was published on August 31.

Many indigenous citizens have reportedly been left out of the final NRC, more than 1 lakh of them Gorkhas. It has been reported that many tribal communities -- such as Hajongs, Koch-Rajbongshis, etc, have also been left out.
One would be astounded to discover that Bangladeshi nationals residing in Hailakandi district of Assam have been included in the list. The Bangladeshi national, Faridul Hussain Laskar, entered Indian territory on 21 February 2013. Even more surprisingly, Faizur Rahman and Maksuda Begum, two accomplices of Faridul, who are from Bangladesh, have been making trips to India, and their names have now found their way into the voter rolls.
According to complainant Bilal Ahmed, Faizur and Maksuda have also been availing ration card service in India. He said that after he filed complaints against the Bangladeshi nations, he was physically assaulted.

The district BJP Mandal President, Manab Chakraborty, has expressed grief over the whole situation. He alleges that there are numerous discrepancies in the NRC. "Many indigenous sons of the soil have been excluded, whereas Bangladeshis are being included. They are availing all the rights accorded to Indian citizens, even voting rights", he said.
After the publication of the NRC, Prateek Hajela, the State Coordinator, NRC said, “A total of 3,11,21,004 persons have been found eligible for inclusion in the final draft, leaving out 19,06,657 persons, including those who did not submit their claims.
“Those not satisfied with the outcome can file appeals before the Foreigners Tribunals”, he added.
It may be mentioned here that the NRC authority has declared that the non-inclusion of a person’s name in the NRC does not amount to his/her being declared a foreigner. Moreover, every individual kept out of the final NRC can appeal to the Foreigners’ Tribunal (FT). The time limit for filing appeals on FTs has been increased from 60-120 days.
Not only this, the Government will provide legal aid to those needy people who have been excluded from NRC, through the District Legal Services Authorities. An increased number of FTs are being established at convenient locations.
It may be mentioned that over 41 lakh people had been excluded from the first draft list.
