BREAKING: Guwahati police prohibits victory procession on Assam election counting day

GUWAHATI: The Guwahati city police has prohibited assembly of people or victory procession in any part of the Kamrup (Metro) district on the day of Assam assembly election counting on Sunday.

In a prohibitory order issued under Section 144 CrPC, commissioner of police Munna Prasad Gupta said the restrictions have been issued in view of the COVID-19 pandemic situation as well as in apprehension of possible group clashes after declaration of results.

The prohibitions include restriction of number of companions with the winning candidates or authorised representatives to two while receiving certificate of election from the returning officer.

Besides, assembly of five or more people at any place and sale or purchase of fire crackers have been strictly prohibited in the entire district.

Banning movement of any individual without mask, the order also prohibits public gathering outside counting stations.

Anybody caught violating the prohibitions would be prosecuted under Section 188 of the IPC, the order added.
