BREAKING | Tezpur MP RP Sarmah resigns from BJP after Himanta nomination

Tezpur, March 16, 2019:

In an early morning setback to the BJP, sitting Tezpur Constituency MP Ram Prasad Sarmah has done what few politicians do, that is, following through on a promise. According to sources, the senior BJP leader has resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) following news of Himanta Biswa Sarma’s nomination from the Tezpur Constituency.

On his official Facebook page, he posted: "Resigning from the primary membership of the BJP right now after serving the RSS/VHP for 15 years and the BJP for 29 years. I felt greatly insulted when my name, a sitting MP and the President of Assam Gorkha Sammelan, did not find (a) place in panel sent up by the state BJP committee. Friends and the people of Assam and my constituency, I will continue to serve you till the end of my life. I will always lovingly nurture your support and love for me for such a long time. I love you from the core of my heart.”

It is to be mentioned that Sarmah had been threatening to resign from the party when news of Biswa Sarma’s nomination from the Constituency first started floating around. Allegedly unhappy with the party decision, the leader who has been associated with the party for 29 years, has decided to finally call it quits due to clashes with the party’s new leadership.
