Personnel of the Border Security Forces (BSF) have nabbed yet another cattle smuggler along the Indo-Bangladesh border near the Sishumara Border Outlook Post.
On September 9, based on early morning special intelligence reports, a boat patrolling was deployed in the riverine area. At around 5:15 am, the ambush/Boat Patrolling party observed suspicious movement of a miscreant. The BSF party challenged the miscreant, and had apprehended him, along with three cattle heads.
The apprehended person has been identified as Saiful Islam, aged 20, who is a resident of Sukhchar Village in South Salmara District of Assam.
The apprehended person has been handed over, along with the cattle heads, has been handed over to Kharwabanda Police Station for legal action.
It may be mentioned here that smuggling of cattle and other forms of trafficking is widespread across the India-Bangladesh border. Estimates place the number of illegally smuggled to over one million a year.
