KOKRAJHAR: Comedians Bipul Rabha and Sontan Das have been seen busy performing mimicry of animals during Bodoland People's Front (BPF) campaigns to woo voters ahead of the BTC polls. A unique concept to gain the approval of the masses, wouldn't you say?
Both the comedians have joined the campaign trail only a few days ago, just in time for the BTC polls. This comes amid massive electioneering campaigns by various parties including BPF, UPPL, BJP, GSP, AIUDF, and Congress to woo voters in all the districts of the Council. BTC election is likely going to be held in the first week of December and the new council would be formed within December 15 next.
The BPF and UPPL -- both local parties -- are at the forefront, contesting in most seats of the BTC council elections.
On Thursday, both BPF and UPPL parties held mass campaigns at different places in Kokrajhar district before the announcement of election dates for the council. The state election commission is likely to announce dates for the council elections within November 15.
The UPPL party is contesting in 40 seats, BPF 37, GSP 35, BJP 26, AIUDF 7, and Congress in 13.
An all-women mass gathering of BPF party was organized at Aflagaon ground for party candidate of Banargaon constituency, Rajib Brahma.
In the campaign, BPF president Hagrama Mohilary, MLA Rabiram Narzary, and BPF secretary Dr. Anjali Daimary addressed the gathering and urged the citizens to vote in favour of party candidate Rajib Brahma.
The candidate said that people are desirous of good governance and health infrastructure in the region and as the BPF has been working on both fronts. He also claimed that the BPF will win 30 out of the total 40 Seats.
On the same day, the UPPL party carried out 'parivartan padajatra' (change walk) in Kokrajhar town under Debargaon constituency today in support of party candidate Buddadev Mushahary.
The party candidate, issuing a challenge to the BPF chief Hagrama Mohilary, said that Mohilary will be defeated handily in the council elections.
