BTC Polls: Political parties welcome the announcement of dates, all exude hope of winning

KOKRAJHAR: The much-awaited dates for the 4th general elections to the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) legislative assembly have finally been revealed by the Assam state election commission. The elections will be held in two phases -- on December 7 and 10.

The council elections for the 40 member house of the Bodoland Territorial Council shall be taking place on December 7 and 10 in two phases and counting of votes shall be held on December 12.

In the first phase of polls to be held on December 7, 21 constituencies under Baksa and Udalguri districts shall head to the booths.

On December 10 -- the second phase -- polling will be held in 19 constituencies in Kokrajhar and Chirang districts.

Meanwhile, several parties and organizations -- including UPPL, BPF, Congress, and the AIUDF -- have hailed the announcement of election dates for the BTC legislative assembly.

UPPL chief Pramod Boro and former Rajya Sabha MP and founding president of UPPL party Urkhao Gwra Brahma have welcomed the announcement of the long-awaited dates.

Boro has demanded strict security deployment during the elections to be held across the four districts.

Boro said that the UPPL party is getting massive support and shall be winning an "absolute majority" in the 40 member house.

"Common voters are extending support to the UPPL for Parivartan and development services in the region. The council elections must be conducted free and fair to meet good governance in the region.UPPL party is getting last laugh across the region", Boro added.

APCC secretary and senior spokesperson Durga Das Boro, welcoming the announcement. said that Congress-AIUDF alliance shall be winning "double digit number seats" in the BTC council elections to form the administration. At the same time, he condemned the BJP party for its "tactics" ahead of the polls.
