Budget Session begins in Rajya Sabha amid CAB fears

Guwahati, January 31, 2019:

The parliamentary budget session has begun at the Rajya Sabha today and will conclude on February 13. The joint sitting of both the Houses was addressed by President Ram Nath Kovind to enumerate the achievements of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government.

The ruling NDA Government will address a number of issues that include farmers’ issues and the Rafale controversy, among others. It is generally feared that the Government is likely to table the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 and pass it.

Meanwhile, a handful of Opposition, headed by Congress President Rahul Gandhi and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad including Harish Rawat, party in-charge for Assam, has assured to appeal all the members of the opposition in Rajya Sabha to oppose the Bill.

It may be mentioned that a delegation of the state Congress headed by party State president Ripun Bora on Wednesday met the party President Rahul Gandhi to oppose the Bill.
