Senior advocate, Upamanyu Hazarika's battle for the deportation of illegal immigrants and his jive at the double standards of the leaders in Assam. In an interview with INSIDE NE, Senior Advocate Upamanyu Hazarika spoke at length on the hypocritical role adorned by the Politcal leaders of Assam. He spoke on the inefficiency of the leaders to drive out the illegal immigrants from the state who are mostly guided by selfish interests.
He also spoke on the Mass Signature Campaign that they had undertaken for over a period of six months now which commenced functioning from November last. He stated that theirs is a legal battle for protective rights of the indIgenous people of Assam. He stated firmly that such protective rights needs to be taken up by the state legislature. He stated that no firm stand has been take for the filtration of the illegal immigration and that tangible steps like the Assam Accord has faced obstacles and hinderings over the period of 33 years from its commencement like the IMBT act. He went on to say that even steps like NRC would not help to douse out the fire since it will only provide an opportunity for some foreigners to prove them as locals. Additional measures like reservation of trades, land rights, educational rights etc should be preserved for the indigenous people of Assam. This would mean the disincentivet for the foreigners who mostly chunk to the state of Assam for better opportunities.
The advocate slammed the leaders saying " We have a bunch of leaders who are incompetent, self servants, speaking for their own advancements compromising the rights of the indigenous people pushing them into the parels of the illegal immigrants". Thus through their Mass Signature Campaign the senior advocate has waged a relentless war, collecting signatures across the state to safeguard the rights of the indigenous people. The memorandum will be submitted to the Prime Minister to convey their grievances and their demands to be fulfilled. He stated that the people of Assam had high hopes on the BJP and had rose them to power. So its high time for them to prove themselves worthy as people's representatives. The advocate through the Campaign has specified a period of 1 year for the government till the 2019 elections to. Thus he conveyed his grudges saying that the government needs to ponder over the matter and take concrete steps to refrain Assam from turning into a minority community at the hands of the illegal immigrants.
Citizenship Amendment Bill has only thrown a turmoil with repeated protests by an insecure population, so much of time energy has been spent and furthermore creating rifles along linguistic lines with which the Chief Minister is not bothered as long as he can hold on to the Chair.
