Guwahati, 13 January 2019:
Once again, the baton of Assam Cricket Association (ACA) has been passed on to a businessman instead of a former cricketer or sportsperson as Ramen Dutta on Saturday emerged victorious to claim the President’s post.
Pradip Buragohain, who was holding the President’s post untill the Annual General Meeting of the state’s premier cricket body held at the ACA stadium in Barsapara on Saturday, was outclassed by Dutta who received 21 votes against his 9 votes.
The treasurer’s post was grabbed by Tridib Konwar with 19 votes while Parikshit Dutta secured the vice president’s post with a total of 24 votes against Preetam Konwar.
Debajit Saikia, former Ranji player and the present Vice-President of the ACA, was confirmed as the new Secretary.
Prior to the general meeting, a number of different sections of the State expressed their grievances and concerns as none of the former cricketers or other sportspersons of Assam have ever been elected to the cricket body.
