While addressing a press conference in Guwahati, Bhuyan said, "I was compelled to join Politics after practicing journalism for past 35-40 years. Some have questioned my shift from Journalism to Politics. However, we, as journalists also practice politics in some way. The entire system is directed by Politics,"
"My stand on CAA is the same. I hope for a valuable and productive politics in future, Bhuyan added. "Rajya Sabha election is not a big deal nowadays. The ruling government fields its candidates for its own interest. However, the scene was quite the opposite earlier. Nowadays, Rajya Sabha election is all about the luxury. I had never been interested in politics. When I was arrested back in the 90s, I was offered to join Politics multiple times. When secret killings started in Assam, I was also threatened. I have experienced a lot. But this time, I joined Politics because they were interested in selecting a CAA activist. When my name was being discussed, I decided to go ahead with it. I got a proposal that if Congress & AIUDF comes together, the chances of winning are high."
He said that he was elected for raising his voice against CAA. "As a Journalist, I promise to work for the cause of maintaining religious harmony. I will work to protect Democratic rights. I will never step back when these come up. CAA revolution will continue," he said.
The veteran Journalist extended his gratitude to his well-wishers and public for the required support and suggestions during the Rajya Sabha phase.
It may be mentioned here that all the three prominent faces from Assam — Journalist Ajit Bhuyan, Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) leader Biswajit Daimary and Bhubaneswar Kalita have been officially elected to the Rajya Sabha uncontested on Wednesday.
Returning Officer Amarendra Narayan Deka announced the win of the trio officially on Wednesday. The new Rajya Sabha MP’s from Assam, Ajit Bhuyan backed by AIUDF and Congress, Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) leader Biswajit Daimary and Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Bhubaneswar Kalita have collected their credentials from the Returning Officer.
It may be mentioned here that everyone’s eyes were drawn to this year’s Rajya Sabha election following the candidature of Journalist Ajit Bhuyan, who was also actively engaged in anti-Citizenship Amendment Act or CAA brought in by the Government.
