C(A)A Row: 27 Arrested in Dibrugarh for 'Vandalism'

Dibrugarh, December 17, 2019:

As many as 46 cases has been registered, and 27 miscreants involved in the recent vandalism of property in Dibrugarh have been arrested in the wake of the protests against the controversial amendment of the Citizenship Act, or C(A)A.

In a joint press conference, the Deputy Commissioner of Dibrugarh, Pallav Gopal Jha and Superintendent of Police, Sreejith Tiraviam informed the media on Tuesday that all the arrests have been done with "sufficient evidence" against the accused.

DC Pallav Gopal Jha said, “43 government installations have been damaged fully or partially in the recent vandalism activities by antisocial elements in the district.”

Thanking the conscious citizens and media of Dibrugarh, the administration has appealed all to restrain from spreading rumours amid the volatile situation in the State over the C(A)A.

“Police is also verifying the CCTV and video footage received from various sources. Police has also identified the trouble mongers from the video and CCTV footages. Actions will be soon taken against them based on the evidences. No one will be spared,” said SP Sreejith T.

The Deputy Commissioner further informed that the "decision on restoration of Mobile internet services will be taken by the higher authorities after assessment of the situation.”
