President Ram Nath Kovind on Friday lauded the Citizenship (Amendment) Act while addressing a joint session of Parliament.
Ram Nath Kovind said, “After Partition, Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi had said that those Hindus, Sikhs and other minorities who sought refuge in India should be given citizenship. It is the duty of the government of India to give them a normal life.”

Expressing happiness over the passing of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, Kovind added, “This move is to fulfill the dreams of those who built our country.”
He added that the decrease in terrorism in Jammu-Kashmir is a clear depiction of public cooperation. The security situation in the Northeast has also improved significantly due to the concerted efforts of the Government, added President Kovind.
The President also hailed the abrogation of Article 370 and Article 35A of the Constitution and on the appointment of CDS and creation of the Department of Military Affairs to improve coordination among the three services.
