CAB foiled by Congress floor management led by Rahul Gandhi: Assam Congress

Guwahati, February 13, 2019:

Senior leaders of the Assam Congress like Tarun Gogoi, Ripun Bora, Bhubaneshwar Kalita, and Pradyut Bordoloi reached New Delhi to lend their support to the movement against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016.

Speaking to the press, former Assam Tarun Gogoi took jibes at the current BJP-led administration. Gogoi stated that it is the victory of democracy and expressed his satisfaction at being able to help the people of Assam secure their “language, heritage, culture and identity” adding further that the Congress party has always stood by the people of the state.

Gogoi also thanked Rahul Gandhi and his mother Sonia Gandhi for deflating the BJP morale earlier in the day by staging a protest against the ‘Rafale deal’. While thanking the BJP Chief Minister N Biren Singh for standing against the Bill, Gogoi alleged that Assam’s CM Sarbananda Sonowal and Finance Minister are “cowards.”

APCC President Ripun Bora also congratulated Rahul and Sonia Gandhi for what is being seen as a big moral defeat for the BJP before the elections and also expressed his gratitude to opposition leader Ghulam Navi Azad and stated that the alliance of the UPA, as well as NDA-affiliated parties, was able to secure a majority. Bora further opined that the Congress had made a deal with the BJP that discussions over the Union Budget would only be held if the Bill was scrapped.

“They might bring it in an ordinance, though, as they use it as a vote bank strategy and polarizing strategy”, cautioned the Congress President Ripun Bora.

Senior Congress leader Pradyut Bordoloi also slammed the Assam administration. “The BJP and the RSS with their leaders Badan Phukan (Sarbananda Sonowal) and Himanta Biswa Sarma have plotted to divide the people with their conspiracy, but the people have won today along with efforts from the Congress”, he added.
