As India gears up to celebrate the 72nd Independence Day, a few youth from Assam's Baksa district will celebrate the day with a 3.5 km long Tricolour.
The youth, belonging to the Sunrise Youth Club, will take out a six-km long rally from Uparkhati to Swagpur with the national flag that has been stitched by a number of tailors. The rally is expected to be attended by at least 3,500 people.
Speaking to InsideNE, the club’s assistant secretary Pavan Oli said, "The flag will be a part of a massive rally with about 3,500 people carrying it. It has been stitched at a cost of Rs.4 lakh. Local politicians, individuals and members of the club offered donations for the same”.
He said the flag and the event would send across a message.
"We want people to know that we are not hit by militancy or any such activities anymore and that our state is very peaceful,” said Oli. He said the event would be in honour of athlete Hima Das.
The club has around 34 members who have been actively involved in social activities for the past 11 years.
