Guwahati, January 25 2019:

All India Congress Committee (AICC) Joint Secretary and India Youth Congress in-charge Krishna Allavaru, while addressing the media, said that The Assam Pradesh Youth Congress is starting the ‘Chalo Panchayat, chalo ward’ (lets go to Panchayats, let’s go to wards) initiative to reach grassroots level to raise awareness about various issues among the people of the state.

“We want to alert the people about the difference between the Congress and BJP. Whereas the latter works for rich industrialists, the former works for the benefit of the poor, the middle-class and women”, he said.

Addressing the issues faced by the people of the state, he said: “We want to reach the people of Assam through this initiative. We want to posit some questions to the Assam state government as well as central government.  We want to raise the real issues. The government had promised to increase employment, but all that was raised were petrol prices. They had talked of raising farmers’ MSP, but they raised taxes instead. Women’s safety would be secured they said, but they raised prices of LPG gas. They promised of developing educational infrastructure, but they increased corruption through the Rafale deal”

Krishna also slammed the imposition of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 on the people despite statewide protests. “The culture of Assam and respect of the people of Assam have been warred upon with the presentation of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in this manner”, he stated.
