Assam is preparing for its final day of elections as constituents from 4 Assemblies - Gauhati, Dhubri, Barpeta, and Kokkrajhar - will head to the polls on 22 April. Yet, the people who are leaving for their native places to cast their votes are facing an unexpected problem as bus fare has been hiked by over 100%.
It has been reported that the fare of many buses plying from Guwahati to neighboring areas has been hiked from Rs. 50 to Rs. 100.
Due to the lack of public transport services in the city due to the upcoming election, many people have been left stranded at places like Jalukbari where people usually board buses, trekkers, Travelers etc. Moreover, the buses are overcrowded and many scuffles have reportedly broken out in city buses across the state. Commuters also had to wait for long periods of time to catch buses.
In the Jalukbari area of Guwahati, passengers were visibly furious and frustrated because of these reasons and blocked the road, which created a situation of chaos in the whole area.
