KARIMGANJ: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said cheating anybody for vote is the nature of Congress.
Taking a dig at the Congress alliance with the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), Modi mentioned the video of conversation between state Congress chief Ripun Bora and Kaliabor MP Gaurav Gogoi on New Year Day. He was addressing an election rally here.
“I am sure you all have seen a viral video. I also got the opportunity to see it. I am talking about a video where a couple of Congress leaders are seen making manifesto at the press conference dais itself. While it takes long hours of hard work to prepare a manifesto, in this video we can see two or three Congress leaders telling each other to just make promises and they are not supposed to be fulfilled,” Modi said.

He was referring to a viral video in which Bora, unaware of the fact the media’s cameras were on, is seen telling Gogoi to make some promises which are not necessary to be fulfilled.
“Congress is disconnected with the earthly realities … the Congress today has neither neta (leader), nor niti (policy), nor bichar dhara (ideology),” the prime minister added.
“It can stoop to any low. It can join hands with anybody. While they are allying with the Left in Bengal, they are wrestling with them in Kerala. In Assam, it is in alliance with a party against whose politics, even the Congress workers have always fighting against. A party whose thinking is not stable, can it provide stability to Assam?” Modi added.

He also took the opportunity to showcase that he has spruced up his knowledge about legendary Ahom general Lachit Borphukan took few names of noted personalties of Barak Valley before the saying: “Assam has enjoyed the blessings of great people like Bir Lachit Borphukan who had played key role in saving Assam from foreign invaders. As the country is celebrating Amrit Mahostsav of Independence, every citizen is today saluting all those from Lachit Borphukan to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.”
The reference came a day after the proscribed United Liberation Front of Assam (Independent) demanded an apology from Modi for referring Lachit to a freedom fighter during an Amrit Mahotsav programme in Gujarat on March 12.
Calling Barak Valley the gateway to Northeast, he said: “Barak valley is not only the gateway to the Northeast, but also gateway to the BJP in the Northeast. When BJP was not in a sound position three decades ago, Barak Valley gave its mandate to the BJP in nine out of 15 seats. So, I am starting the party’s formal election campaign from here today.”
