New Delhi, November 27, 2019:

The contentious Citizenship Bill, which has been the cause of much turmoil and unrest in the Northeast Indian region, is scheduled to be passed by the Union Cabinet in the evening today.

Reacting to this, Asom Songrami Mancha leader Adip Phukan, who has been a part of the anti-Bill agitation in the state, told Inside Northeast that the Bill is likely to uproot the Assamese from their own soil. "Today, we have launched a protest in Guwahati to send a message to the Government, that the Bill will not be accepted. This Bill threatens to destroy the very identity of the Assamese", he warned.

It is pertinent to note here that the exact content of the Bill is not yet known to the public; and the entire Northeast region awaits with breath to discover what the contents of the re-worked CAB will be.

Meanwhile, the anti-Citizenship Bill protests have already gained momentum across the Northeast -- with civil society groups, student bodies, and indigenous organizations already launching full-scale protests against the Bill.

On November 22, the Northeast Students' Organization (NESO) launched a series of protests across all capital cities of the Northeast, with thousands upon thousands of students, activists, and concerned citizens taking part in the protests.
