GUWAHATI: Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Assam chief minister-designate, on being elected as the saffron party’s legislature party leader thanked the people of Assam for their unwavering faith in him.
Taking to the microblogging site Twitter, Sarma wrote, "With fragrance of Assam in my heart & love of my wonderful people in my veins, I offer my deepest gratitude to you all. I would not have been what I am had it not been for your pious faith in me. On this Day, I vow to work with & for each one of you with greater passion Assam."

Thanking prime minister Narendra Modi, Sarma said, "This is the biggest day in my life, and I so fondly cherish your generous affection. I assure you we shall leave no stone unturned to carry forward your vision of taking Assam, & NE to greater heights."
After the BJP-led alliance won a landslide victory in the recently concluded state assembly elections, which were declared on May 2, the name of Assam's next chief minister took almost a week to be announced.
Earlier today, outgoing CM Sarbananda Sonowal proposed Sarma’s name as the leader of the BJP legislature party, at the BJP legislature party meeting here.
The oath-taking ceremony will be held at 12 pm tomorrow, which is likely to be held at the Sri Madhabdeb International Auditorium.
