Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, in a recent meeting with the renowned filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar, discussed the potential of film making in Assam.
The Chief Minister said said that a lot of steps have been taken by the state
government to revive the Assamese film industry and he requested Bhandarkar to
shoot one of his films in Assam so that the beauty of Assam can be taken to an international audience.

Bhandarkar told the Assam Chief Minister that a "single window system" should be put in place so that filmmakers can obtain the necessary clearances here. Sonowal informed that Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for a Film is being formulated by the Assam state Government. Bhandarkar is in the city for attending the 3rd Guwahati International Film Festival, one of the most prestigious film festivals in the NE region.

It may be mentioned that the Assam film industry is receiving boosts from the Government, with recent hits like Kanchanjangha and Ratnakar proving that commercial Assamese cinema is back with a bang. Moreover, the Assam Government, in a bid to promote film tourism in the State, has planned to host the Filmfare awards in 2020 in Guwahati city of Assam.
