Congress backing separatists and communal forces in Kashmir & Assam: Himanta Biswa Sarma

DISPUR: Assam Minister and BJP's point-man in the Northeast Himanta Biswa Sarma today lambasted the Indian National Congress (INC) -- both at the national level and in Assam -- for "communal" and "separatist" forces in Assam and Kashmir, respectively.

"The Congress has gone far away from the days of the freedom movement. They have gone far from the principles of nationalism and secularism. Today, they are trying to disturb the peaceful environments of both Kashmir and Assam -- in Assam, they are indulging in communalism, and in Kashmir, they have joined separatist forces," Sarma said.

Addressing the media here today, Sarma said that the Congress party is playing a "dubious" role in today's political environment. "Particularly, the recent alliance of the Congress party that they will have electoral alliance with the Gupkar gang in Kashmir shows that the Congress is shifting towards separatist forces," Sarma said.

Sarma said that "right from Kashmir to Assam", Congress is "playing a dangerous game." "In Assam, Congress is supporting the communal agenda ofd Badruddin Ajmal. Whether it a question of Miya flag, Miya culture, Pakistan zindabad slogans, you will see that the Assam Congress is openly endorsing the action of ULF and other Congress leaders who tone and tenor is completely communal," Sarma said.

Addressing the Congress party directly, the NEDA Convenor said, "Do you believe in India's secularism? Your alliance with the Gupkar gang which seeks to overturn the revocation of Article 370 and restoring 35(a) is dubious."

The People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration, or Gupkar Alliance, is a tie-up of six parties, which was formed in October with the agenda of reinstating the now abrogated Article 370 of the Constitution, which provided special status to the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.

Sarma said that the leaders of the Congress -- Sonia Gandi and Manmohan Singh -- should clarify their stand on these alleged instances of "communalism". "They must clarift their stand on the Pakistani flag, Miya museum, Miya culture. Their national leaders cannot stay silent," Sarma said.

Sarma said that the BJP party has taken a "bold stand" to revoke the Article 370 in Kashmir, adding that the Gupkar leaders have "continually taken a hardline stance in regards to Kashmir."

"Both Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti have directly or indirectly lauded Cjhinese attempts to capyture India's land in Ladakh's sector," Sarma alleged, adding that former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah has also hobnobbed with separatist forces and even visited Pakistan.

"They have gone beyond a point and they no longer believe in the Constitution of the Parliament of India," Sarma said, adding, "· While the Gupkar Alliance keeps harping for the restoration of Article 370 much against the people’s interests, the Congress continues to play its double game on matters of national interest and national security like much else.
