Congress demands high level probe into Guwahati scribe's death

GUWAHATI: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora has demanded a high-level inquiry into the mysterious death of senior scribe Purbajyoti Chutia.

Bora has also asked the government to take immediate measures to ensure financial security of the family members of the journalist.

The Journalists’ Forum Assam (JFA has urged the investigation agencies to ascertain the actual cause of the journalist’s death.

Meanwhile, Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Assam Pradesh president Ranjeet Kumar Dass condoled the untimely death of Chutia terming it as an irreparable loss for the state media fraternity.

Purbajyoti Chutia was found dead near his residence in Hatigaon area of the city this morning, sending shockwaves across the state.

Hailing from Moran in upper Assam, Chutia was associated with several media organizations over the past three decades, with a long stint in sports journalism.
