Guwahati, August 5, 2019:

Assam's three-time Chief Minister and Senior Congress leader Tarun Gogoi on Monday, expressed his opinion about the hardships faced by the poorer sections of people in regards to NRC summons. It is to be mentioned that the NRC authority recently issued thousands of summons to people across the state, fixing August 5th as a date of re-verification.

Talking to Inside Northeast, he said that this is "arbitrary" and condemned the NRC authorities for creating panic among the masses. He further alleged that NRC Co-ordinator Prateek Hajela might be a puppet at the hands of the RSS.

"As per my knowledge, most of them are legal citizens", he said, adding that many communities like the gorkhas, bengalis, and minorities are being excluded.

Meanwhile, the NRC authorities' summons to the people to faraway places to appear for re-verification in faraway places with scant regard for people's financial difficulties has been unequivocally condemned by Ripun Bora, who has alleged that the people are facing "undue harassment". In a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, he has alleged that the NRC authority is disregarding the Supreme Court's order. Moreover, Bora has urged the Home Minister to stop this re-verification, so that the people get "justice."
