At a time when there is a hustle across the state regarding the Citizenship Amendment Bill,2016, a diplomatic statement by the Congress Legislator from Silchar Constituency has get down on the people forging them to ponder over their own quivering fate.
A very hypocritical stand was portrayed by Susmita Deb at a Press Conference in Delhi today. She stated the Congress never stood against or incited anything against the Assamese Culture and the Assamese People. She stated that they dream and urge of a unified Assam. She contemplated that if 5 lacs immigrants inhabit assam, the state will see different consequences and a total different scenario might be with hold if the number of immigrants rise to 50 lacs. She expressed her sentiments for the Bengalis saying that the Bengalis in Assam never opposed the Assam Accords. Her emotions for the Bengalis were well reflected when she said “We sympathize with the Hindu Bengalis and me being a Bengali cannot stray away from the”. She also stated that this is not the first time in history that Brahmaputra and Barak Valley stood apart. History witnessed its separate stands during the Language Revolution too..
This statement did perplexed every Assmese but the intensity of the enigma got a notch higher when at the same Press Conference she blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party for adopting a ‘Divide And Rule’ policy. She blamed this policy of the government saying that the government has claimed to deport every illegal immigrant from the Brahmaputra Valley whereas it has stated firmly to call off every detention camp in the Barak Valley. She ended her speech diplomatically saying that we as Assamese should stay united at this juncture
Thus such an ambiguous statement has compelled the people to wonder where they are being lead to. Thus her statement brought glimpses of her love for the Bengalis and at the same time she did not refrain from attacking the government , thus a clear portrayal of her double standards to hoodwink the people time and again.
