GUWAHATI: The Congress today staged a protest against possible manipulation of EVMs by the BJP government after an active EVM was recovered from a vehicle of a BJP candidate in Karimganj district on Thursday.

Senior Congress leaders such as AICC general secretary in-charge of Assam Jitendra Singh, former minister of external affairs Salman Khurshid, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Ripun Bora, president of All India Mahila Congress Sushmita Dev, national spokesperson Gourav Vallabh and APCC legal cell chairman Niren Borah, registered their protest against the respect to public mandate.

The partymen protested at Manabendra Complex here along with a large crowd of supporters.

The party called upon the Election Commission (EC) authorities to intervene and aid the people to safeguard their constitutional rights.

The Congress has urged the EC to remain a neutral entity and uphold the sanctity of political representation in a democracy, while implementing legal recourse for this glaring misuse of power by the ruling regime in Assam and not remain a mute spectator to such important issues.
