Senior Meghalaya Congress leader Zenith Sangma, in an exclusive interaction with InsideNE, has lambasted current Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma and his continuing association with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), despite his apparent objection to the NDA’s brainchild Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016.
Zenith has questioned how Sangma can continue with the NDA despite not agreeing with the policies such as the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016. “He said that if the NDA led by BJP passes the Bill in the Parliament, he will withdraw his ties with the BJP. Even though it was not passed, Amit Shah in Assam declared that if the BJP is voted to power to power again, he will ensure that the Bill will be passed. So what is Conrad Sangma waiting for?” said Zenith.
Zenith Sangma has alleged that Conrad Sangma is “scared of the BJP and the NPP cannot survive alone. “He (Sangma) needs somebody as Godfather to survive, so he is scared of the BJP leadership. Just to please them, he is becoming soft. That is why, he is thinking and uttering and reconsidering his stand on the CAB”, Zenith added.
Zenith also questioned how Conrad Sangma can wield any kind of influence in the Rajya Sabha despite not having any NPP candidates representing the Upper House.
