With the four new containment zones in Guwahati declared after detection of the recent positive coronavirus cases, the total number of such zones goes upto 10.
Guwahati has 10 containment zones as of now, Munna Prasad Gupta, Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, said.
Rajkamal Hotel and encircling area, Fancybazar; Residential area within the campus of Dr. B. Borooah Cancer Institute, Birubari; Panbazar Railway Colony, Amiya Nagar, Chandmari; GS Colony, Fatasil; Near Kumar Nursing home, Kumarpara; Pubali Path, Santipur; Near Kali Mandir, Rathkhula, Fatasil Ambari; Notun Basti, Go path, Datalpara, Fatasil Ambari, and S.K. Bora Road, Rukminigaon have been converted into containment zones in Guwahati.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family, the containment zone is a specific geographical area where positive cases of coronavirus are found. Strict movement restrictions are put in place in such areas to prevent further spread of the virus. The zones are conceived to map the local transmission of the disease and prevent the contagion from spreading.
“There is no thumb rule to define an area a containment zone. Decision to declare a particular area as containment zone depends on the topography of the area,” the Police Commissioner said.

Nobody can come out and go in except medical emergencies. System of delivering food and other essential commodities.
It may be mentioned that while a hotspot is converted into a containment zone, a containment zone need not always be a hotspot.
Except medical emergencies, all types of services including public movement, Grocery stores, pharmacies, banks, ATMS and post offices remain suspended in a containment zone.
However, home delivery of essential items like groceries, medicines, and dairy products to the boundary marked by the government authorized delivery personnel only.
Return of stranded people might be a cause of increase in the number of positive coronavirus cases in the state. The state has registered 96 cases and two deaths so far. Five cases have been detected across the state in the last 24 hours. Guwahati alone has 33 cases so far.

Around 1800 stranded people reached Guwahati by the special trains, Commissioner Gupta said. It may be mentioned the Indian Railways resumed special trains services from May 13.
Meanwhile, the Chief Secretary of Assam, Sanjay Kumar Krishna appealed the people of the state to obey the lockdown rules strictly. “We have to adhere to the lockdown rules laid by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for next one month,” he added.
