Coronavirus: 17 Residents of Guwahati Who Arrived from New Delhi are Under Home Quarantine

Guwahati, April 1, 2020:

Assam has suddenly seen a spike in cases after the "Coronavirus Hostspot" Tablighi Jamaat or Islamic congregation at Nizamuddin Markaz near Nizamuddin Dargah in New Delhi came to the fore.

While the State Government is taking every possible measure to quarantine the ones who have arrived in Assam amid the outbreak of coronavirus, be it from New Delhi or the other parts of the country in the month of March, Inside Northeast brings you the list of those who had arrived from New Delhi and are presently home quarantined in Guwahati.

6. Hitesh Deka, Jalukbari (March 15)

7. Dasharath Majumdar, Dispur (March 18)

8. Medha Pathok, Hatigaon (March 19)

9. Aashi Kumar, Adagudam, Guwahati (March 16)

10. Sandhya Chetri, Jorabat (March 18)

11. Gopa Lala, Jalukbari (March 19)

12. Harendar Prasad Rajak, Jalukbari (March 18)

13. Himangshu Dutta, Bamunimaidan (March 21)

Out of 52 people, only seventeen of them are under home quarantine. Ealrier today, Assam Health & Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had cautioned the citizens of the State to stay alert and said that soon positive COVID-19 cases will increase from five to double-digit number.

As on Wednesday, Assam has five positive cases of COVID-19 and all five of them had been to the Tablighi Jamaat at Nizamuddin Markaz. A list of 547 people has been received, along with their details. Of them, 347 are present in Assam but we are able to trace 230 people. The rest are roaming freely. Their phones are switched off. By evening, we should get the final list of all the people, said Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.

It needs mention here that of the 230 who have been identified, samples of 196 have been collected and sent to 5 medical colleges and the tests are in process.

134 of them have not yet showed any symptoms, yet we are keeping an eye on them while four of the ones who were present at the Markaz have tested positive in Delhi — Naskar Ali, Baksa, Faharuddin, Baksa, Mustafa Ahmed, Barpeta and Nagaon’s Mohammad Ali.

The Assam Health Minister has urged all the ones, who had attended the Markaz and not yet informed, to come forward and report to the nearest medical centre. He has also urged others who have arrived in the State and not yet reported or home quarantined.

India has seen a sharp spike in the number of COVID-19 positive cases in the country. Currently, 1,637 people are said to be affected by coronavirus in India. 45 people have died so far due to the disease. 10 new deaths and 240 new positive cases have been reported till the filing of this report.
