Tinsukia, April 4, 2020:

Earlier today, Bikash Nayak, a youth who was quarantined at the Sivasagar Civil Hospital amid the coronavirus outbreak, has been located at Tinkusia. The youth had reportedly run away from the hospital 3 days ago (by his own admission) and had returned to his hometown. However, his freedom was short-lived when he came to the notice of Tinsukia locals who informed the authorities.

Today, the Delhi-returned youth was spotted lurking in the area by locals, who raised the alarm. Later, authorities came to the area and took the youth back to a quarantine facility.

Nayak, who belongs to Parbatiya in the same district, says that the reason he was in Delhi is because he was getting paid more for the same work.

"This youth ran away from Sivasagar Civil. Local people saw him and then after looking at his photo in the mobile, intimated the authorities. Now, personnel have arrived from the police station to whisk him away", said a local.

This development has been reported in the midst of an alarming situation in the state, as 25 cases have been reported within a span of 5 days.

Meanwhile, Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that after the congregation at Nizamuddin Markaz came to light, as many as 812 samples have been tested. Till now, overall, 1,529 samples have been tested for the coronavirus, Sarma said. “Out of these, 1,308 samples have been declared as negative. 25 are positive, and 196 results awaited”.

Nizamuddin incident has taken on a dramatic turn, Sarma said, and added that 812 samples have been tested and 24 are positive. 636 are in quarantine, and they will be tested again. 152 results are still awaited, Sarma said, further making an appeal to the organizers of the congregation to disclose the actual number of people who had attended.

Notably, many people have been kept in quarantine -- many of those were near the coronavirus hotspot of Nizamuddin Markaz where foreign preachers are said to have brought the virus.

Cases in Assam, meanwhile, continue to show an uptick. In the morning, yet another case, the 25th in the state, was reported from North Lakhimpur district.

Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that this case was also linked to the Tablighi Jamaat congregation at Nizamuddin Markaz.

“Alert ~ One more

It may be mentioned here that Assam Health and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday night confirmed that 3 more people tested positive for COVID-19. This was relayed by the Minister via a tweet that was posted on his official handle.

According to the Minister, 2 out of the 3 cases have links to the Nizamuddin Markaz congregation held in New Delhi in March last. Another person from Golaghat district tested positive minutes after the fresh 3 cases, taking the total number of COVID-19 cases in the State to 24.
