Haflong, April 2, 2020:

Amid rising number of coronavirus positive cases in Assam, Dima Hasao has till date quarantined 25 more people, taking the toll to 519. It has also come to light that people continue to violate the rules of the 21-days lockdown put in place by the Centre to curb the spread of the contagion. Now, as many as 5 people have been arrested from Dima Hasao's Haflong, reportedly for violating the rules. Vehicles have also been seized and fine has been charged for violations by motorists.

"In spite of repeated reminder to the people to stay home and not to loiter unnecessarily, there have been complaints of people gathering at various corners and around the district, 5 people have so far been taken into action and released on bail after having been arrested from Haflong town for defying advisories on novel coronavirus", said an official release.

However, the release also stated that there has been an overall improvement with people gradually refraining from going outside.

At the same time the police administration in Dima Hasao has also been distributing essentials to people and also distributing food materials to animals. Meanwhile, NGOs have been distributing refreshments to the men in uniform.
