Coronavirus: Israel-Returned Baksa Youth brought to Guwahati for Testing

Baksa, March 28, 2020:

Amid the nationwide panic over the coronavirus or COVID-19, it has come to light that a youth from Baksa district, aged 27, has been shifted to the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital for testing purposes.

It has been reported that on March 22, the youth who hails from Uparkhuti in Baksa district returned from the country Israel and quarantined himself in a home. Now, it has come to light that the youth has started developing a very slight fever, which is purportedly one of the key symptoms of the COVID-19 infection which has so far spread to 613,882 people.

A medical worker informed us that the youth is called Hemanta Deka and his friend from UP has tested positive for the virus. "3 days ago, it was confirmed that his UP friend has tested positive. Fearing that he has the virus, he has isolated himself and we have now been called. Now, he will be taken for screening and treatment, if required."

His father, Hemanta Deka, who is a farmer by profession, has confirmed that the youth has been confined to a separate quarter and has not come in touch with his family members ever since he came back from Israel on March 22. "He went outside to study. On March 21 he took a flight, he came back on the 23rd. Now, fearing that he has corona, he has called health officials. Since coming back, he has been living separate. We have not come in contact."

Talking to mediapersons, the youth confirmed that he corresponded with the man from UP who has tested positive. "We did not sit together, but we interacted since we were together. At the Delhi airport, there were a lot of people", he told the media. Talking on the lines of his health, he said, "I am doing well now, but I just wish to get tested."

Now, he has been taken to the GMCH in a 108 ambulance that was arranged by health workers of the Naokata Mini PHC It may be mentioned here that the youth who has been brought for testing had done his doctorate in the IIT Guwahati's Chemistry department.

Note: Israel has so far reported 3,460 of the contagion coronavirus. 12 people have already died due to COVID-19 infections in the country. Meanwhile, India has recorded a total of 933 cases, and 20 deaths overall.
