An Assam man having flu-like symptoms was earlier today rushed to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) fearing that he might be afflicted with the deadly coronavirus. The man had reportedly reached Assam from Kerala, and was shifted to the hospital from LGBI airport.
"Yes, a person who had flu-like symptoms has been referred to the GMCH for treatment...the administration thought it best to take him there as he had arrived from Kerala, where two cases have been confirmed so far. However, we cannot say with certainty that the person is indeed infected with the virus", a source told Inside Northeast.

Meanwhile, Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that there are no "confirmed cases" of the deadly virus, that first broke out in Chinese mega-metropolis Wuhan, adding that precautionary measures are being adopted to curb the potential outbreak of the virus.
Assam Health Minister Pijush Hazarika, on the other hand, has told mediapersons that the person was shifted to the GMCH as a precautionary measure.
It may be mentioned that more than 300 people have died in the outbreak so far, the vast majority from Hubei province in China. More than 14,000 people have been infected.
Meanwhile in India, a person who had a history of travelling to China, tested positive in Kerala today, the Indian health ministry confirmed. "The patient has tested positive for novel coronavirus and is in isolation in a hospital," the officials said. It has been reported that the person is now doing well.
