Coronavirus Patient Hailing from Assam Passes away in Mumbai

Mumbai, May 4, 2020:

Mohammad Badruddin, a man from Assamafflicted with the novel coronavirus, has finally breathed his last in Mumbai, the epicentre of the outbreak in the state. He passed away on Sunday at the St. John's Hospital in Mumbai, where he was being treated for the virus.

According to Inside Northeast reports, Badruddin is originally a resident of Hojai district in Assam. He was reportedly working in Mumbai and got stuck there when the lockdown was called.

According to our reports, the youth was stricken by an ailment of the stomach 3 days ago. On Sunday, doctors operated upon the youth and moments later, he succumbed to his illness. Badruddin was also detected positive for the COVID-19 on Sunday itself.

Assam, meanwhile, has reported 43 cases of the coronavirus, and 32 patients have recovered; one patient has died so far in the state.

Interestingly, Northeast India has been able to make it to the “Zero Red Zone” list of States prepared by the Government of India (GoI). As per the list, there are orange zones in the Northeast States but not a single district has been marked as red amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Assam Health & Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter to share, “It is heartening to share 30 out of 33 districts fall under Green Zone, as per @MoHFW_INDIA categorization of India’s districts. Only 3 are put under Orange zone, and none in Red zone. This is a cause for both cheer, and caution. We need to remain vigilant.”

It is pertinent to mention here that certain relaxations have been issued by the Centre for the next phase of the lockdown. In Assam, too, an entirely new set of rules and relaxations have been announced.

Under the new guidelines, a limited number of activities will remain prohibited throughout the country, irrespective of the Zone.

These include travel by air, rail, metro and inter-State movement by road; running of schools, colleges, and other educational and training/ coaching institutions; hospitality services, including hotels and restaurants; places of large public gatherings, such as cinema halls, malls, gymnasiums, sports complexes etc; social, political, cultural and other kinds of gatherings; and, religious places/ places of worship for public.

However, movement of persons by air, rail and road is allowed for select purposes, and for purposes as permitted by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
