GUWAHATI: As many as 16 new COVID-19 cases were detected at the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport here today till the report was filed.
Confirming this to InsideNE, Kamrup (Metro) deputy commissioner Biswajit Pegu said: "The COVID-19 positive cases are increasing alarmingly over the past one week. Yesterday 28 cases were detected at the airport."
According to officials, daily 15 to 16 cases are being detected from passengers arriving in Assam from outside Northeast.

Assam recorded 876 fresh cases of COVID-19 and two more casualties due to the infection over the past 24 hours. Kamrup (Metro) remained on the top of the chart with 360 cases followed by Kamrup with 56, Sonitpur 47, and Dibrugarh 42 cases.
Meanwhile, 149 patients were discharged from various hospitals during the day, taking the count of recoveries in the state to 2,16,546. The recovery rate in the state now is 97.26 per cent.
This leaves the state with 4,794 active COVID-19 cases. The death rate stood at 0.50 per cent with 1,129 deaths.
