GUWAHATI: Assam’s COVID-19 death toll rose to 1,531, as the state witnessed 46 more deaths due to coronavirus infection, over the past 24 hours.
On the other hand, 4,936 fresh COVID-19 positive cases took the tally to 2,77,687, while the active caseload mounted to 31,829. The current positivity rate is 8.04 per cent.
Kamrup (M) recorded a total of 13 deaths, while Dibrugarh and Kamrup reported four deaths each, followed by Golaghat, Nalbari and Tinsukia three each, Barpeta and Sonitpur two each, and Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Cachar, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dima Hasao, Hojai, Jorhat, Karimganj, Lakhimpur, Nagaon and Sivasagar districts one death each respectively.
The death rate stood at 0.55 per cent.
The new cases have been detected out of 61,377 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.
The state has so far tested a total of 89,07,148 samples for COVID-19.
Kamrup (M) continued to remain on the top with 1,353 cases followed by Dibrugarh 484, Kamrup 454 and Nagaon 275.
Meanwhile, 2,976 patients were discharged from various hospitals during the day, taking the count of recoveries in the state to 2,42,980. The recovery rate in the state now is 87.50 per cent.
A total of 28,32,173 people have been administered the COVID-19 vaccine in the state so far.
Meanwhile, Assam today received one lakh more doses of Covishield from Serum Institute of India to inoculate people above 45 years of age.
With this, the state’s total vaccine availability currently stands at 3,25,470.
Earlier in the day, state chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal discussed the COVID situation with health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma over phone.
The chief minister also held a video conference with the deputy commissioners and reviewed various aspects of the COVID-19 situation in the districts.

Sonowal also directed the deputy commissioners to take approximate measures to control the prices of essential items and medicines.
He also asked the deputy commissioners to regularly visit the hospitals to review the COVID situation and check availability of medicines supplied by the government.
