COVID-19 Outbreak: 43 inmates test positive in Udalguri district jail

UDALGURI: Another jail in Assam has been turned into a hotbed of COVID-19 as 43 inmates of Udalguri district jail have been tested positive for the virus.

As many as 176 inmates have gone through Rapid Antigen Test and out of which 43 found positive.

Out of 43 positive inmates, 35 are under trial and 8 have been convicted.

As per government officials, the positive inmates have been shifted to a COVID Care Centre.

Apart from Udalguri, the jails of Karimganj, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar have turned into a COVID hotspot as well.

Earlier this month, 34 inmates of Karimganj jail tested positive for COVID-19 and later 105 cases reported from the jails of Dibrugarh and Sivasagar.

Overall, 233 inmates in 16 different jails of Assam were tested positive for this deadly virus so far.
