Coronavirus can now apparently be cured by a dash of cow dung, says Assam BJP MLA Suman Haripriya, who is a former filmmaker and daughter of former Guwahati MP Bijoya Chakraborty.
During a discussion on cattle-smuggling in the Assam Assembly (cattle smuggling has been a mainstay in Assam and neighboring Northeast states) this is what the BJP MLA had to say: "The government is doing research on cow dung and cow urine. When cow dung is burnt, the smoke that emits has the power to destroy the virus. I believe cow dung can help fight the outbreak of coronavirus."

Continuing her baffling rant, the MLA further opined that cow dung has properties that can cure diseases, going on to claim that science also plays a part in this. "There are scientific reasons why we use cowdung and cow urine during religious rituals. There are some hospitals in Gujarat which treat their patients with ayurvedic medicines. The patients there are kept alongside cows and given Panchamrit prepared from cow urine and cow dung."

The MLA also said that cancer can be kept at bay with a helping of the supposedly holy cow dung. "I learnt about cancer patients getting cured by following this method. That’s the reason why people worshipped cows in the olden days. Every single thing that cow gives us is important", she said on the Assembly Floor.
Haripriya's comments are now being used by trolls as a means to lampoon the BJP MLA for her apparent lack of knowledge regarding the issue.
