GUWAHATI: Cyclone 'Yaas' is likely to affect hit Assam and two other northeastern states --Meghalaya, and Sikkim on today and tomorrow, bringing moderate to heavy rains, said India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials said on Monday.

Officials from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the intensity of rain is determined by cyclone movements.

Moreover, eight teams from Guwahati's National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were airlifted to Odisha to conduct search and rescue operations.

Engineers, paramedics, and technical experts made up the 200 person teams that were airlifted from Guwahati to Bhubaneswar by Indian Air Force planes.

These teams include flood rescue aircraft, collapse search equipment, and specialist rescue operation gear.

H.P.S. Kandari, the NDRF 1st Battalion Commandant, said the Odisha government had requested more than 50 NDRF teams, while the West Bengal government had requested 35.

Meanwhile, iaddition to those from the battalions deployed in these areas, teams from NDRF battalions in Assam and Bihar are being airlifted to Odisha and West Bengal.
