Hailakandi, December 10,2018:
SouthernAssam's Hailakandi district ensured overall peaceful second and finalphase panchayat poll to elect 3,220 representatives for zila parishad members, anchalikpanchayat member, gaon panchayat president and gaon panchayat member, inwhich 75.56 per cent electorates exercised their franchise on Sunday.
Thanking the people of
the district for coming out in large numbers to exercise their democratic right
despite inclement foggy weather conditions, District Election Officer Adil Khan
said that by conducting themselves responsibly, the people of Hailakandi
district have set an example for others to emulate. He said that focus of the
district administration all along was to ensure peaceful poll in a free and
fair manner. Khan had drawn up a comprehensive security plan for smooth and
hassle-free conduct of the election. Several cells had been constituted headed
by a senior officer with assisting staff for smooth conduct of the
election.
Superintendent of
Police, Mohneesh Mishra also held security review meetings with the OCs of
police stations to ensure maintenance of law and order on the day of polling. Khan
said barring one or two minor incidents, the election was by and large peaceful
with not a single case of disruption of poll and inducement of voters that was
brought to the notice of either the Assam State Election Commission or the
district administration during the day.
The District Election
Officer also thanked the polling personnel, government officials, CAPF security
personnel and Assam Police personnel for working day and night to ensure free,
fair and peaceful poll in the district. "I thank the people of
Hailakandi district for voting in large numbers. I thank all the officers and
staff connected with conducting the election as well as the security personnel
and Assam Police personnel for their hard work, dedication and sincerity,”
Khan added.
Election Observers Nirmal Kanti Debnath and Surajit Sonowal also thanked
the people and the district administration for ensuring free, fair and peaceful
election. Counting of votes will take place on December 12 for 80 ZPM, 345 GPP,
335 APM and 2,460 GPM. 31 candidates for GPM have been declared uncontested.
