Guwahati, October 23, 2018:
Peasant leader Akhil Gogoi said that even after the Government forcefully tried to keep the shops and business establishments open in Assam, the people of the state have made the Assam Bandh a "grand success".
Gogoi said that the government has been after him since Monday and on Tuesday he was "gheraod" by some policemen near Latasil. He somehow managed to escape from the place.
He added, "Even after so much of turtore on the people where the police forcefully tried to make the shopkeepers open their shops, the people supported the bandh and did not bow down to the government."
Gogoi further added, "They were even threatened by the BJP and RSS that if they support the bandh then their trade licences would be cancelled. The government is acting like Hitler and showing their dictatorship by forcing the people to not support the bandh."
He added that despite government's dictatorship, the people came forward and made the bandh a support. Every community in Assam has supported the bandh and no one has feared the threats of the government.
He claimed that he has never seen such a bandh in his entire life and people should keep on protesting the goverment's "conspiracy" to settle more then 1.9 crore Hindu Bangladeshis in Assam.
