Yesterday, all of social media came together to laud the determination of the traffic police Mithun Das, who stood rooted to the traffic point at Basistha Chariali in Guwahati while heavy torrents of rain lashed the city. Although people hailed the officer for his steadfast determination, people soon started questioning why the traffic point did not have a roof. As it turns out, the traffic point, which is located on the National Highway-37, had been uprooted when a truck collided with it, but authorities have not taken any steps to repair it as of yet. DGP Kuladhar Saikia addressed the issue on Monday during a press meet.
Addressing the media, DGP Kuladhar Saikia said, “Yesterday’s storm was sudden and the officials were not prepared. Despite such harsh climatic condition, the officials continued their duty. I applaud them for their hard work. The Basistha Chariali traffic point that has gone viral on the social media, Constable Mithun Das has performed his duty with dedication.”
“I have called him personally and lauded him for not leaving the signal. People have appreciated his work and we are also proud of him. I have even asked the Additional SP of Basistha Police Station to inform in the station that this kind of work is being appreciated by people. We have seen the picture of one constable but there are many others whom we appreciate as well”, he added.
Citing the damaged traffic point that was broken one week ago, the DGP replied, “Since the traffic point is in the highway, we have discussed with the National Highway Authority. The point was damaged in an accident and there are other such points as well. The constables are given raincoat from the department which he did not carry yesterday.
