‘Digital North East Vision 2022’ unveiled

Guwahati (Assam), Aug 11, 2018

Union Minister for Electronics & Information Technology and Law & Justice Ravi Shankar Prasad unveiled “Digital North East Vision 2022” document here on Saturday in the presence of Sarbananda Sonowal, Conrad Sangma and Biplab Kumar Deb, chief ministers of Assam, Meghalaya and Tripura respectively, besides IT ministers and senior government officials of all the North-eastern States and senior officials from the Union Ministry for Development of North Eastern Region.

A vision document of the Government of India for the Northeast, it envisages developing socio-economic condition of the people of the region by empowering them by leveraging digital technologies.

The document lays emphasis on digital infrastructure, digital services, digital empowerment, promotion of electronics manufacturing, promotion of IT and ITes, including BPOs, digital payments, innovation and startups and cyber security.

Prior to that, the Union Minister and Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal laid the foundation stone for Common Facilitation Centre and Smart Meter Manufacturing facility at the Electronics Manufacturing Cluster in Tech City, Bongara village in the city’s outskirts.
