A Dimapur to Pasighat 'Blue Hills' Night Service Bus bearing registration no. AS – 01KC
– 6252 met with an accident near Banderdewa in Lakhimpur district of Assam today at around 5:00 am.
The accident took place around 6 kms away from Banderdewa check post. As per information received, there were 27 passengers who were travelling in the bus.
Sources from Banderdewa Police station said that around nine persons have received
injuries, out of which four passengers are under observation at Dholpur Public Health
Clinic (PHC), while two persons -- the drivers and his assistant -- received serious injuries. Few more passengers also sustained minor injuries and were discharged after proper medication there.
Narayanpur Police under North Lakhimpur district of Assam is further investigating
the matter and other details are awaited.
It may be mentioned that this is not the first major accident to have occurred near Banderdewa.
On 30 January, 2019, three people were killed in a fatal accident on the Harmuti and Laluk, Assam highway stretch some 4 km from Banderdawa in the morning at around 9 am. Fortunately, EAC cum Magistrate, Seppa, Atin Padung who was travelling in his official vehicle, including his driver, escaped unhurt.
All the three deceased were occupants of the Hyundai Eon car and succumbed to their injuries on the spot, but fortunately Padung along with his driver, F Natung escaped unhurt with minor injuries, according to the Laluk Police Station source.
It may be mentioned that the Dimapur to Pasighat distance is around 495 kms (approximately 8 hours by road).
The deceased were identified as Kumud Pasoni (30), Md. Hajrat Ali (50) and Faruque Ahmed (30) all from Laluk Police Station jurisdiction.
Road safety continues to be a major concern in the Northeastern region in India.
