Haflong, January 24, 2020:

The feared militant outfit Dimasa National Liberation Army (DNLA), through an official release has condemned the "anti-secular" and "anti-indigenous" Citizenship Amendment Act, pushed through both Houses of Parliament by BJP majorities in December last.

Opposing the legislation, the DNLA's official release stated that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is "anti-secular" and "anti-indigenous". The rebel outfit also opposed the implementation of Panchayati Raj in sixth schedule areas i.e Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong. “The Panchayati Raj will abolish the existing traditional village council system of Tribals and would threaten the identity and Tradition of the tribal communities,” stated the DNLA's release.

DNLA further said that the organization opposes the establishment of the National Register of Citizens' (NRC) detention camp in Dima Hasao, citing that the area is not a dumping ground. They further said that there is greater need for an educational institution instead of a detention camp in the hill area.

The DNLA which announced its formation in early part of April 2019 amid Lok Sabha election, called 36 hours bandh on the polling day in the twin hill districts of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao, and appealed the people not to cast their votes. However, it had no impact on voter turnout as most people cast their votes in the election, which saw BJP leader Horensing Bey elected to the Lok Sabha by a comfortable margin.

Meanwhile, the Dimasa National Liberation Army (DNLA) has called for a 24-hour Bandh on January 25, Saturday, in the twin hill districts of Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong to mark the 'Dimasa Martyrs' Day.
