Assam Government has declared a ‘Dry Day’ on Saturday, September 26 in Kamrup (Metro) on account of Janmotsava of Srimanta Sankardeva.

On Friday, an official circular issued by the Kamrup (Metro), Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu read “It is for information of all concemed that as per Rule-326 (b) (iv) of the Ansam Excise Act. 2000 Amendment in 2018), the 26 September, 2020 Le. “JANMOTSAVA OF MAHAPURUSH SRIMANTA SANKARDEVA” will be “DRY DAY”. During the period possession or sale or distribution of spirituous, fermented or intoxicating liquors or other substances of alike nature is completely prohibited. During the aforesaid “DRY DAY”, all wholesale Warehouse, IMFL Retail “OFF” and “ON” shops including Club “ON” Hotel “ON” and Country Spirit Shop will remain closed in Kamrup Metropolitan District. Any violation of the above will attract penal action as per law”.
